Café is located in a converted house just outside Geneva College. I like the layout – cozy ‘rooms,’ yet a bit on the college-trendy side, nice defined spaces. Free wi-fi, too.
They use a nuova simonelli espresso machine, and will french press you coffees (also have a few airpot choices). Beans are from Grounds for Change, who only do organic ‘fair-trade’ coffee. (Cafe is into the whole environmentally-friendly thing.) For espresso, they use a different roaster, Commonplace Coffeehouse. They are also thinking about doing some roasting themselves as well.
At first, I thought the barista was a student at the college, but he is actually a professor there, as well as one of the owners of the shop. I was very impressed with his skill. I hope that he effectively transfers this in training his baristas. Good espresso pull, good steaming method. He even topped off my lattes each time with a fern-like pours (and in a good shop, latte art really should be done every time in my opinion- a mark of experienced preparation). The espresso macchiato (my all-time favorite) was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent espresso pulls every time. Highly recommend this place. Cafe is an oasis in what at first seems like the middle of nowhere.
